Departure to Agadir - Agadir is a modern city that blends both Moroccan and European styles. It is well laid out with wide streets and low buildings. Most of the hotels sit between the city and the beach. For some Agadir is too modern and functional, but it is a spacious city and a marked contrast to more typical cities found in most of Morocco. Predominantly a beach resort, Agadir's only historic site is the Kasbah - an 16th century fortress situated on the hill that overlooks the town providing great views of the resort and of the harbor that we visit later. Visit the Souk 'El Had', a walled market place with many shops and stalls, focusing especially the huge fruit and vegetable part; visit the Berber Art Museum with a collection presenting the folk arts and traditions of the Souss valley, especially silver jewelry; in the afternoon enjoy the beach and leisure time. Departure to Essaouira (pronounced Esa-weera), the most popular of the coastal towns, with magnificent beaches and relaxed atmosphere. The fortifications of the old city are a mixture of Portuguese, French, and Berber military architecture, and their massiveness lends a powerful mystique. You'll find narrow lanes, whitewashed houses with blue painted doors, tranquil squares, pleasant cafes, and artisans in tiny workshops carving away at fragrant thuya wood. We will spend the day exploring this delightful place, with time to absorb the unique flavor of the old town, the harbor, and the friendly people. Essaouira is full of the irresistible angles and picturesque sights that are attractive to photographers. Overnight in Essaouira.
